For international students who want to study in Canada, a study permit is a necessary document that is issued by Canadian immigration authorities. For international students to be able to study in Canada, they must acquire a valid study permit first. In addition to this, students who have been granted study permits are authorized to enrol in Designated Learning Institutions. Educational institutions approved by Canada’s provincial or territorial government to receive and host international students are recognized as Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs).

Canada Student Visa Requirements

You may apply for a Canada Study Visa if you meet the following requirements.

LOA by a designated learning institute (DLI).

In order to be eligible to come to Canada, you must demonstrate that you have the financial capability to pay for your tuition fees, the living expenses of yourself and any family accompanying you to Canada, and the return transportation for you and your family members.

A medical certificate is required to confirm your health, so you must undergo a health check-up as soon as possible.

What documents are necessary for the Canadian Visa?

Once accepted by a Designated Learning Institute, the next step should be to apply for a student visa to pursue your studies. To ensure you can join the program for the particular intake, it would be wise to begin the visa process three months before the intake. To submit your application, the following documents are needed.

Valid Passport

If you wish to apply for a Study Permit, a Valid Passport will be required. According to the Canadian High Commission, your passport must have a validity period covering the entire duration of your stay in Canada. If you are planning a two-year course in Canada, ensure that your passport is valid up until the end of your course.

Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from a Designated Learning Institution

You must possess an acceptance letter from that institution to confirm your enrolment in the university or institute of your choice. The Immigration Department has officially recognized the Designated Learning Institute as a University. The Letter of Acceptance (LOA) is an official document issued by a Canadian institution to confirm that you have met the admission requirements.

If you are admitted to a program with conditions, it is important to meet those conditions before your study permit can be issued.

Proof of Funds

You must demonstrate the availability of funds when you apply for your Study Permit. To meet the current standards, you must show that you have the necessary financial resources to cover tuition fees and the money needed to cover your living expenses. The Income Tax Return documents of the sponsored persons, the evaluation of the property, the CA report, liquid funds, bank statements, and bank balance certificate may be included in the process. Canadian Immigration mandates a student to have a minimum of Canadian $10,000 as GIC for their stay.

Note:
When you submit the application form, you must provide evidence of fees paid that are mentioned on the LOA and the established cost of living, CAD 10,000.

Digital Photographs

To proceed, you are required to have a digital version of the photograph that should not be greater than 4MB in size. Other requirements are standard neutral facial expression, plain background, and no headgear (unless for religious purposes).

Medical Examination for Immigration

Indian international students must have a compulsory Medical Exam for Canadian Immigration. Students must schedule and make an appointment with the listed doctors for a medical examination at least one week before submitting their Visa Application. This ensures that the doctor has the time to authenticate and upload the required documents. Booking an appointment beforehand with the closest facility or practitioner from the list of impanelled doctors is highly recommended.

A panel physician will conduct a complete medical examination and could refer you for chest x-rays and laboratory tests if needed. The physician will deliver the exam results to CIC after completion.

English Language Proficiency Test

We advised you to have appeared for and acquired your English Language Proficiency Score before beginning your Visa Application Process. To be admitted to the Canadian University, you must provide evidence of your English language proficiency. If you want to prove your English proficiency, the TOEFL, IELTS, and PTE tests are all accepted.

Statement of Purpose

To be accepted for a Canadian Study Permit, you must submit a written explanation of your purpose for coming to Canada and why you have chosen the particular institution. This document is not required, but it is strongly recommended that you include it in the checklist.

Credit Card

Submitting your application requires you to have a credit card in order to pay the application fee. In order to complete your Visa Application for Canada, you must be prepared to pay the fee in Canadian Dollars (CAD). This system only allows for payments with credit cards and not debit cards. In addition, it is not compulsory to use your own credit card. You can use your parent’s cards as well.

Along with the information mentioned above, scanned documents are necessary. To prove academic and financial status, these documents are used as evidence. These may include:

1. Academic transcripts, 10th grade, 12th grade, diplomas, academic degrees, or educational certificates from any schools you have attended.
2. Scores from tests, such as the IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, SAT, GRE, or GMAT
3. Relevant work experience documents, salary slips, and bank salary statements.
4. In order to complete the process, you must submit an Adhaar card, Pan card, application form, and Family form in addition to the other documents.

Application for a Canadian Study Permit

1. How much does the visa fee for Canada cost?

According to the CIC Website, the current exchange rate for a study permit for Canada is CAD$ 150. As the exchange rate is not fixed, we advise you to double-check the rate at the time of your visa application. You should keep the receipt to show that you have made the payment. Your study permit alone won’t enable you to enter Canada, and you may be issued with Electronic Travel Authorization alongside your permit.

You must pay the fees if you are serious about applying for a student visa and starting your studies in Canada. The fees are as follows:

You may be eligible to work part-time with a Canadian Study Permit, usually up to 20 hours a week.

Please review the processing times before you submit the visa application, as it can take up to four weeks for the cycle to finish. For an estimate of the amount of time it will take to process a student visa, it is beneficial to look at the Canadian consulate website. We want to make it clear that the provided time is not a guarantee and is just an estimate.

2. Determine how you will apply.

Register online for your application.

The Canadian immigration authorities have made it very clear that all visa applications must be submitted online and can be done so through their immigration website. To get started, the first step you must take is to open an account and ensure you have a valid email address ready to go. Once you have opened your account, the application process will provide step-by-step instructions and guidance to complete all necessary steps.

To be considered for the position, you must submit a fully completed application. Careful consideration should be taken when reading the guide and making sure that all documents are present on the checklist.

3. All applicants must fill in the VFS Consent Form and submit it along with their application form. You must have this form to ensure that you gain the assistance of VFS services for the visa filing process.

4. It is important to remember that when submitting an application to VFS, either in person or by mail, the visa fee must be paid in addition to the charges held by VFS Global. The processing fee is a non-refundable fee under all conditions.

5. In order to apply, you must submit your application and any related documents. Once you have completed and submitted your application, you will be assigned a unique tracking number that you can use to monitor the status of your application on our website. Once you have completed the necessary steps, you will receive a biometric request. To finish your application, you must take a visit to the VFS office.

6. If your application is approved, you will be contacted by the Government of Canada in order to receive your passport. You can either go or personally submit the passport and its request letter or alternatively, you can use the VFS system to do the same. You will be provided with both a Temporary Resident Visa and a Letter of Introduction following successful approval of your application to the program.

How to Get the Study Permit
A Study Permit may be issued to you when you reach Canada. You must bring the Letter of Introduction as well as the documents that have been specified in order to travel to Canada. Upon arrival at the airport, you will be greeted by an Immigration Officer. To receive your Study Permit, the border control agency officer must first validate your Passport and Letter of Introduction. If all documents are found to be satisfactory, the officer will then issue the Study Permit.
Post Study Work Permits for Canada

The requirements one must meet to be eligible for a Post Study Work Permit are as follows:

You should have pursued a full-time course in Canada.

The duration of your course should have been greater than 8 months. It is mandatory to have graduated from a public or private post-secondary institution.

It is recommended that you submit an application for a work permit within three months (90 days) of receiving official confirmation of having successfully completed your education from the institute.

It is only possible for you to receive a work permit if you possess a student visa.

It is not possible to obtain a work permit for a period of time that is longer than the duration of your course. If you are taking part in a course that lasts one year, you will be able to obtain a work permit for the same amount of time. If you pursue a course that is longer than two years in duration, you can secure a work permit for a period of three years.
